There is male and female lobe of kolanut when you break it.  It is of interest to note that the type of kolanut you use to do incantation depends on the case you want to address and that must be tested meticulously to see a desired results. 

For instance, if  you wish to invoke your late father probably to take a sacrifice, you must use a male lobe of kolanut for your late father to be awaken. 

But if you wish to invoke your late grandmother using kolanut, you must make use of female lobe of kolanut, otherwise she will not be awaken for action. 

So, the ancestors respond to your invocation based on your method of approach.
